Hong Kong, UWC South East Asia (2013-2016)

"I see myself as a typical example of what a Third Culture kid is; I am half Irish, half Indonesian, and was born and raised in Hong Kong. I was also a boarder at UWCSEA from 2013 to 2016 and am now a UWC Davis scholar at St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York. At university, I study Politics and French and also try to study other languages when I have the time.

I have just completed a semester in Copenhagen and am now [May 2019] in London volunteering for the International Office as I have always wanted to find a way to give back to the movement that made so many things possible for me and that has shown me a world of opportunities. Volunteering here has given me more insight into the UWC movement as well as how much effort and passion it takes to make life changing opportunities for current and prospective students possible.

During my time at UWC, I managed to cultivate a passion for sustainability, which only properly kicked in after I moved to the US and was introduced to the waste culture there. From there, I have involved myself in sustainability initiatives wherever I've been and have been able to encourage those around me to not just live better lives for the environment, but also from themselves. This has shown me that UWC has encouraged me to become a change-maker wherever I go. After I graduate from university, I would like to work with environmental organisations in order to help change how we treat ourselves and the environment and I also plan on giving back to the community by helping disadvantaged ethnic minority students in Hong Kong to have access to better opportunities."
