Kauai Forest Bird Recovery Program

16 October 2016

Dr. Lisa “Cali” Crampton (Pearson College UWC, 19985-19987) has been working as a coordinator of the Kauai Forest Bird Recovery Project in Hawai'i for several years. The project promotes knowledge, appreciation, and conservation of Kaua'i's native forest birds, all of which are unique to Hawai'i. When it comes to Anianiau, Lisa’s favourite native birds in Kokee and Alakai Swamp, she describes them emotionally: “It’s just like a lemon drop hanging in the tree. It’s just so cute, so small, so sweet”.

Sometimes people are unaware of the impact of human activities on the habitats of other creatures, but Lisa is determined to “bridge this disconnect”. She believes that “when people see how beautiful these birds are and learn how few there are left, they’re going to want to do something.”
