How to Promote Conservation through Film

10 October 2016

In 2003, on a trip back to Asia, Patrick Rouxel (UWC South East Asia, 1982-1984) saw the extent of the deforestation in Sumatra and decided to use his film-making expertise to raise awareness about the plight of wildlife suffering from habitat destruction.

The first time he fell in love with the Indonesian rainforest and its wildlife was during Project week at UWCSEA. Patrick says: “At UWCSEA I had opportunities for discovery that I wouldn’t have had in another school”.

He has spent over a decade working on documentaries combating various environmental threats such as forest fires, deforestation, logging, cattle and soy industries. Most recently he has been working with endangered sun bears.
