MATHEMATICS TEACHER with the ability to teach another relevant IB Subject

£24,328-£41,074 per annum (depending on previous experience and qualifications)

Required as soon as possible

The new syllabus for Mathematics on the IB Diploma offers two courses; ‘Analysis and Approaches’ and ‘Applications and Interpretations’.  For the ‘Analysis and Approaches’ course the College offers both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL). Both these courses are based on pure mathematics e.g. calculus, functions, trigonometry, but with some applied mathematics e.g. statistics.

The Standard Level course is similar to the Higher Level, but going into less depth in each topic. The ‘Applications and Interpretations’ course is offered only at Standard Level for this year’s cohort of students. This course is based more on applied mathematics with a focus on mathematics used in everyday life with topics such as interest rates, currency conversion, and modelling, as well as usual topics such as functions, trigonometry.

The IB Diploma is a subject group award so all students will be taking mother tongue literature, a first foreign language, a science, Mathematics and Theory of Knowledge in addition to a humanities subject.

Class sizes vary but rarely contain more than twenty students. It is the practice of the Faculty for a teacher to be responsible for teaching each of their classes in a linear format for the whole two year period. Mathematics is a core subject at the College and a number of students choose to write their extended essays in this subject, you would be expected to take part in supervision and have an understanding of research skills.

It is essential that you are able to teach another IB subject, commit to living on campus and are willing to act as a Houseparent.
