Teaching Vacancy - Mathematics 

UWC Adriatic is seeking an inspirational IB Diploma Teacher of Mathematics Analysis and Approaches with the ability to also teach Mathematics Application and Interpretation SL to join our dynamic and innovative team in August 2024.

The College

UWC Adriatic is a member of the United World College movement, currently made up of 18 schools and colleges across the world. We are a values-driven institution that seeks to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Located on an open campus in the picturesque village of Duino in the north-east of Italy, 25 kilometres away from the city of Trieste, the College is currently home to approximately 185 students, aged 16 to 19. Our policy of deliberate diversity is key to our mission and as a result, students come from over 80 countries as well as a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. Currently, 85% of the student body benefit from a full or partial scholarship in order to pursue their education at UWC Adriatic.

The residential education programme offered by the College places equal emphasis on academic and co-curricular learning experiences. Our students undertake the International Baccalaureate Diploma, a rigorous pre-university qualification, through the medium of English.

All students are also required to engage fully in service-based learning, ecological and outdoor education, physical and cultural activities, as well as social and emotional learning. In addition, the UWC Adriatic educational experience draws inspiration from the surrounding rich Italian culture including art, music, architecture, history and regional languages that stimulate our students’ creativity and reflections.

UWC Adriatic Educators

The successful candidate will have a personal education philosophy in line with the mission and values of the UWC movement and will be expected to demonstrate evidence of the qualifications, experience, skills and attributes that are included in the UWCAD educator profile below.

  • are suitably qualified professionals with a subject-specific undergraduate degree and preferably a postgraduate teaching qualification
  • are passionate, engaged, and mission-driven individuals who have a values-based approach to preparing young people from diverse cultures and backgrounds to become tomorrow’s ethical change-makers
  • work with students to build a strong commitment towards affecting peace in the world and to develop the skills necessary to make this possible
  • are committed to the experiential education model which lies at the heart of the UWC educational programme, where learning is inquiry and concept based, and lessons are student-centred
  • possess the ability to adapt personal teaching style to students from a diverse range of educational systems and cultures
  • integrate Theory of Knowledge into their professional practice (training and support will also be provided by the College)
  • supervise Extended Essays in at least two subject areas
  • value co-curricular learning and are actively engaged in the pastoral and residential life of the College (teachers are provided with accommodation on-site)
  • provide pastoral support to students when needed within a residential context
  • understand that the wisdom, patience and reassuring presence of the educator are essential for the students’ success and growth in a UWC education model
  • have the desire and ability to contribute to the development of the co-curricular learning programme and to share their own unique skills, talents and interests with the College community
  • are committed to developing their professional knowledge and skills
  • thrive in an environment which can be both challenging and enormously rewarding
