About Brave Girl Camp
Brave Girl is a week-long residential empowerment camp in Eswatini, open to 60 female high school students, including refugees and girls from rural communities. The 2025 Brave Girl Camp will take place on 10–17 August, 2025 on the Waterford Kamhlaba Campus. It is organised and run by 20 students from Waterford Kamhlaba from all over the world, as well as 5 staff members from various departments.
During Brave Girl, campers engage in discussions surrounding girl empowerment, with a focus on education, career planning, financial literacy, as well as sexual reproductive health (SRH), mental health and wellness, sports and the arts, developing sisterhood relationships, self-defence and many others. The residential camp is held on the Waterford Kamhlaba UWCSA campus.
The camp, designed specifically for girls aged 16–18), will offer a diverse range of activities and workshops. These include:
- Leadership Development: Learn essential tools and skills for leading effectively in different contexts
- Critical Thinking and Problem-solving: Develop analytical skills and tackle challenging scenarios
- Confidence Building: Build self-esteem and discover your unique strengths
- Personal growth: Explore your interests and navigate personal development through interactive sessions
- Career Guidance: explore various post-secondary pathways and study opportunities, visit local tertiary institutions to learn about the application processes and attend a special lecture
- Law and Entrepreneurship: The purpose of this day is to provide them with real-life experiences of the working environments of their chosen careers.
Past attendees have expressed interest in pursuing careers in a whole range of industries, including arts and fashion, healthcare, hospitality, the natural sciences, engineering, business and finance, law and entrepreneurship. Brave Girl Camp includes a dedicated career exploration day to provide participants with real-life experiences of the working environments of their chosen careers.
Application Requirements
- Female high school students in Eswatini
- Aged 16 to 18, attending Form 4 or Form 5
- School recommendation letter
- Completed application form and essays
