International Biosphere Stewardship Program / Indonesia

9 July 2018

1 July 2018 - 9 July 2018

bali 1Biosphere Foundation invites young people aged 15 to 18 to join our International Biosphere Stewardship Program 1 July to 9 July 2018.

During this 9-day program you will join with young environmentalists from all over the world and our local Balinese teenagers for a program of fun, learning and adventure as we explore our biosphere, learn about the challenges it is facing and see how we can make a difference.

You will experience first-hand the many different natural biomes that N.W. Bali has to offer: The monsoon forest, the coral reef, the mangrove forest. You will also explore the man-made biomes: the farm, and the city, and see how we are impacting our Biosphere.

You will join in with Biosphere Foundation and local community organizations in hands on service work on our various projects and make a meaningful contribution.

Most of all you will be able to share your knowledge and experience with others and think about the environmental challenges facing your local environment and how you can bring the knowledge and experience gained during the program home and apply it to your local community.

BIOSPHERE FOUNDATION

Biosphere Foundation (BF) is a USA nonprofit bali 2Foundation. Our mission is to inspire intelligent use of the earth’s natural resources and empower individuals to become leaders in biosphere stewardship.

To achieve this, we:

  • Engage with island peoples to learn about their challenges and create community-based sustainable conservation programs,
  • Restore coral reef, mangrove and forest ecosystems,
  • Create educational programs that inspire people to care for the biosphere, and
  • Provide an unbiased, “trusted source” of data about the biosphere.

September 26th, 2016 marked 25 years since three of BF’s Founders entered the airlock door of the Biosphere 2 Project (BIO2) and remained inside the 3.15-acre domed structure for two years. In (BIO2) we experienced, every day, how our actions were interconnected with the health of our biosphere, that “our health is synonymous with the health of the biosphere.”

bali 3Today, we believe that hands-on involvement is key to stewarding the biosphere, to realize that no action is ‘insignificant,’ and that everyone can make a difference and be part of the solution. We run an annual International Biosphere Stewardship Program for students aged 15 to 18 were young people from all over the world join our local Balinese youth for a nine-day program in N.W. Bali.

The students are invited to think about the environmental challenges facing their local communities and how they can bring the knowledge and experience gained during the program home and apply it to making a difference for the preservation of their respective local environments.  They also learn how to live and work as a team, how to pay careful attention to the importance of effective human communication, and how to develop good listening, communication and leadership skills.
