UWC Dilijan

Dilijan, Armenia

Set in a spectacular national park, UWC Dilijan gives students the chance to learn, explore and contribute to community life in Armenia.

Student profile: 200 students aged between 16 and 19

Founded: 2014

Campus and facilities: UWC Dilijan’s campus is spread over 88 hectares of spectacular sloping and wooded countryside in the Dilijan National Park. It’s located halfway between Yerevan and Tbilisi, the capitals of Armenia and Georgia, in a culturally rich and complex region in which UWC has previously had no reach.

Sustainable and renewable technology is used throughout college buildings. This includes rainwater harvesting systems, grey water recycling and eco-friendly plant-covered roofs.

Facilities include:

  • Outdoor sports facilities with playing fields and gardens
  • An indoor sports complex with a swimming pool
  • A theatre
  • Outdoor learning areas

Specialisms: At UWC Dilijan each student and staff member contribute to, and is responsible for the community they’re creating. Students contribute to the life of the local community and can implement their own ideas for long-term sustainability and development projects.

By bringing together students from diverse communities, the school is helping Armenia, a country with a troubled past, to build a peaceful and sustainable future.
Beyond the classroom: Armenia’s stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage draws visitors from all over the world. Students at the college can explore the national park on their doorstep and enjoy challenging outdoor activities such as mountain hikes, rock climbing and biking. They can also ski at the nearby Tsakhkadzor ski resort.

At UWC Dilijan, students serve the local community on and off campus. Projects they can get involved in include: working with disabled children, teaching science, languages and internet skills to younger school pupils; and working with local NGOs.
