Waterford KaMhlaba UWC,
Director of Teachers without Borders: South Africa and China

Yunus Peer (WK 71-73) is a full time teacher at Punahou School in Hawaii and Director of Teachers Without Borders (TWB) – South Africa and TWB-China. TWB is a grassroots organisation that provides training and support to teachers in rural communities globally.

Yunus' family has a tradition of activism, in particular against the apartheid regime in South Africa, and Yunus has devoted his life and career to public service and education, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the education provision in rural communities in South Africa. He plans to expand Teachers Without Borders in the coming years, to establish a school in South Africa that not only serves students in the local area but also functions as a teacher training centre and an adult education centre for the community.

Yunus hopes that the school will reflect similar values to Waterford KaMhlaba and the United World Colleges.
