After graduating from Red Cross Nordic UWC, Mathias Vaa (RCN 97-99) studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Keble College, Oxford University.
He is now a Captain in the Danish army and has just returned to Denmark after serving in the Re-building Unit, which is responsible for initiating and implementing small-scale projects in the Danish Battalion’s Area of Responsibility in Basra, Iraq.
Previously Mathias spent two years learning Arabic and Iraqi on a special officer’s programme provided by the Danish army, so that he not only had the requisite military knowledge but also could speak the local language and function as an interpreter for the armed forces on international missions.
