His studies include the effects of toxins (such as environmental pollutants) on ecosystem health.  Currently, Laurie is applying this research to work with Indigenous Peoples around the world – studying the effects of environmental contaminants on traditional food systems and the relationship to human health.

Laurie is proud of being a Pearson College graduate.  He says that the values he gained at Pearson College are "still a blueprint for daily life". Laurie credits Pearson College with helping him to develop a global perspective, become more open-minded, strive for equality and a passion for protecting the environment.
