Ibrahim Khader (USA 98-00) first worked for Al Jazeera on an internship while he was studying at Wartburg College, Iowa.
After graduating from Wartburg in 2004 he then joined the television Channel’s Washington DC Bureau, which just launched Al Jazeera ‘s new English channel, on an Operational Practical Training programme.
“Working on the production-end of this operation, I have been fortunate to travel throughout Latin America and the United States. The constant need to adapt to various cultural environments has not been a new experience. At UWC, we learned to be extremely flexible and accepting of changing and foreign environments. UWC taught me to ‘go with the flow’ and to acknowledge that there is more than one way to approach matters.
UWC has had a major influence in the way I lead my life and choose my friends. Washington, DC is like a larger UWC community – people from all over the world with different styles, attitudes, and languages. Instead of fearing all of these different attributes, I love them. It is as if the UWC years never ended – it is just the people and the place that have changed.”
