Frequently Asked Questions

I am a citizen/national of a country I no longer live in, and reside in a country I am not a citizen of? What National Committee should I contact if I want to apply to UWC?
You should contact the National Committee in the country where you live – most selection processes will require you to be present at interviews. If the National Committee tells you it is unable to consider your application because you are not a national/citizen of the country then contact the National Committee of the country where you are a national/citizen.  If neither National Committee is able to accept your application please contact the UWC International Office

Please provide sufficient time to make these inquiries in order to avoid missing an application deadline.

Can UWC help me with a scholarship for university/further education?
United World Colleges only provides scholarship support for students while they attend a United World College. UWC graduates may then be eligible for support through external scholarship programmes, such as the Davis UWC Scholars Program, but this is a separate process for which UWC is not responsible

Is there a deadline for the submission of applications?
The closing date for applications varies between National Committees. Please contact your National Committee for further information.

Where can I get an application form?
Application forms are available in each country. In some cases it is posted on the National Committee’s website and can be downloaded, in other countries application forms are distributed by the National Committee or a local partner. Please contact your National Committee for further details.

How old do I have to be to apply to United World Colleges?
On application, students have normally completed ten or eleven years of formal education and are normally aged 15 to 17 years.  Please contact your National Committee for exact eligibility criteria.

Students entering Simón Bolívar UWC have normally completed their secondary education and are usually aged 18 or 19 years.

How can I apply to UWC if my country does not have a UWC National Committee?
Please contact the International Office for further information.

Do I have to be able to speak English?
No. Students are not expected to be fluent in English to apply to UWC – however lessons at the Colleges are taught in English, except in UWC Costa Rica (English and Spanish) and Simón Bolívar UWC of Agriculture (Spanish).

Do not be discouraged by a lack of fluency in English (or Spanish). Many National Committees will take into account an enthusiasm and a willingness to learn the language of instruction and other languages encountered in daily life.  The Colleges also offer support to students who do not have any previous knowledge of the teaching language.

It is important for all queries to go through the National Committee as it is best placed to advise and support you. For contact details please click here
